Contemporary artists of Plácido Domingo’s versatility are few and far between. A singer and conductor, tenor and baritone, with more than 150 operatic roles under his belt and celebrated by audiences throughout the world, his universality has led international critics to dub him a Renaissance man. Having been awarded honorary titles and prestigious prizes – particularly for his humanitarian commitment – Domingo also promotes young vocal talent, for example with the Operalia singing competition. Following in his parents’ footsteps, he is a global ambassador for Spanish culture and zarzuela.

In addition to his career as a singer and conductor, he was artistic and musical director of the Washington National and Los Angeles Operas. His concerts with fellow tenors José Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti as The Three Tenors are legendary. Beside his enormous repertoire as an opera singer, Domingo is a pioneer of crossover and has won 12 Grammys. He played the leading roles in the opera-based films by Zeffirelli (Cavalleria Rusticana, La Traviata and Otello), Rosi (Carmen) and De Bosio (Tosca).  His extraordinary, uninterrupted artistic career by now spans more than half a century.
