Brazilian singer, composer and philosopher Joelma Marques performs songs by Tom Jobim, the co-founder of Bossa Nova and arguably Brazil’s most influential composer.

As well as many of Jobim’s hits, such as Girl from Ipanema, Wave, Chega de Saudade (No More Blues) and Insensatez, Joelma Marques will also be performing less well-known compositions and Jobim-inspired originals.

Her two albums, Passos (2016) and Tertúlia do Catolé (2018), were both featured on Solano Ribeiro e A Nova Música do Brasil, Brazil’s prime national radio station featuring newcomers. She has also released two EPs: Cancões de Brincar e Ninar (2020) and De Nós Dois (2022) as well as three singles (2023). Combining samba, forró, jazz and soul with philosophical musings in her music, Marques is currently working on a further EP with the Brazilian arranger Alexandre Caldi, in which she reinterprets songs by Tom Jobim.

Marques will be accompanied by Alexandra Fischer (piano), Janine Schrader (saxophone/flute), Sílvio Fortes (guitar/bass) and Geraldo Müller (drums).
