Directed by Baloji, DR Congo/Belgium/Germany/France/Netherlands/South Africa 2023, 90 minutes, feature film, original language with German subtitles. Accompanied by his pregnant girlfriend Alice, Koffi returns to his birthplace in the Congo after many years of absence. Disowned by his mother in his youth for being a “zabolo” – an evil sorcerer – because of a birthmark, his Congolese family continues to treat him with suspicion and prejudice.

This outstanding, visually stunning debut feature by the versatile artist Baloji tells the story Koffi’s alienation from his roots and his attempt to reconnect in order to heal old wounds.
